Project Upgrade – Episode 3 – Merrell Twins

Edith M. – Together: Hey guys! I’m Veronica! I’m Vanessa! So, we’re making a Magic Mirror. We have someone from NASA guiding us through this project. We’ve met some brilliant engineers. And I’m learning how to code. I’m going to learn how to saw today. This is going to be crazy and super fun! You may know us from our Merrell Twins YouTube Channel. But what you didn’t know, is that we’ve always been interested in science. Life took us on a different path. We are finally living our dream. Join us as we explore the world of science. Alright ladies, we’re into day two. Veronica and the coding team did a really great job at laying down the foundation yesterday, But now, we need to choose our apps for mirror. Vanessa, I want you involved in this, okay? Now, let’s get going we have to get this done. We have to have this mirror ready by tomorrow! Roni: Hands in!
Farah: Let’s go! One, two, three, Project Upgrade! Alright guys, so we decided that we’re gonna do four apps, right? So we should probably talk about what those are. What we want to actually put on the mirror now. We’ve got calendar, we’ve got weather… Like maybe like beauty filters or like a beauty tutorial. And giving someone help on how they should do their makeup for the morning? Rachael: So like, like…
Nessa: Like a filter. Rachael: Like YouTube videos.
Roni: Yeah, yeah! Awesome! We can do that. That would be really cool though. Because you’d have the tutorial right here, and then your face. Nessa: Yeah!
Reagan: So, you could easily like keep track of what you’re doing. I like that. Well, we definitely love to like promote confidence and just like loving yourself on our Channel, so if there’s a way we could incorporate that. With quotes or like- Rachael: Like affirmations?
Roni and Nessa: Yeah, yeah! Okay, awesome! I think we’ve got it then. We’ve got four things. So we better get going. First things first, we need to cut the wood. Oh, we got this come on! Safety gear on. [Sawing] One down three to go. [Laughs] [Sawing] First, we’re gonna create the weather app, and in order to do that, we need to set up our own website. Have you ever coded a website before? No, I have not. Alright, so it’s really basic. So the first thing we need to do is open with an HTML tag and then we close our HTML tag. That’s basically our our website and its most basic form.
Roni: Okay. So, if you want to see what a really simple website looks, just type something into the body. So like, “Hi.” Cool! So we’re gonna save that. We’re gonna use a CSS file. It’s like a whole different language. So, now it should look pretty cool if we refresh. You have a background,
Roni: Oh! You got a change of font-
Roni: I did it! Wait! I kinda did it, but you mostly did it! You did it! It was a team effort! Oh my gosh! Okay. We’re gonna use this to basically be the box that we’re gonna put the screen in. Wait, do any other glasses still? I do. [Laughs] Rae: We don’t.
Nessa: Okay, okay. Nessa: Is that good?
Aditi: Yeah, that’s good. Like that?
Aditi: Yeah your good. What city do you want to see the weather for? Ah, let’s do… Kansas City. Sam: Kansas City, alright.
Roni: That´s where I´m from. Try type that in?
Roni: Yeah. Sam: Kansas City, it’s raining. That looks pretty rough. That’s our weather App. Congrats! You made it! Couldn’t do without your help, so thank you for teaching me. Wow! Could we put lights to it? Yeah, lights would be great! Alright you guys, we have a lot to do. We have to figure out where we want the lights to go on the mirror, and we have to Figure out what color we want the frame to be. It’s all really stressful. But also really exciting. And we only have one day and a half to finish this off. Oh! Comment down below if you guys have any ideas that will help us move along faster. And we will see you guys next episode. Both: Bye!
