My name is Pat Nelson, contracts manager with Just Ask services. We’re a facilities management company and we work specifically for housing associations. We’re at the Elgin Centre where we
provide a cleaning service three times per day because it’s an extremely busy scheme. You’ll come here and it’s just heaving with people. This is a wonderful place for anyone to be. Within our services we look after round about seventy-five thousand homes, which is approximately one hundred and fifty thousand individual residents I think what makes us different and sets us apart is that we have real values We really do try to ensure that we are delivering better spaces for our residents As a contracts manager it is my responsibility to make sure the clients are happy, the residents are happy and the staff are happy The resident inspector program is a great program that Thames Valley Housing have put together They fill out an online survey on a weekly basis to mark the tasks that we carry out Any issues are then picked up on by our resident liaison officer, by our team supervisors, and they’re put right, right away To know that Sinhal is there is a
comfort to all of us because she’s a good girl Recruiting from housing associations is really key Almost 20% of our workforce live in registered social landlords We do apprenticeships for local residents And we have our training academy based here at Fairoaks, to ensure that our residents do get the very best training, the very best career opportunities I’ve been here for three and a half years now At first I started as an apprentice so I was basically learning at college and also learning at the same time at work I’ve been working here for about seven weeks now I came from Blue Sky; they help people with criminal records, which I have You know, I love working outside. It’s a beautiful day for the work… Sun’s out… What more can you ask for? They want to make that garden look *the best* They get competitive – they are so so passionate about the work they do Everyone deserves an opportunity. Where we work, and the places we work around – the opportunities are there – but the people are underserved and they’re not always given these opportunities We’ve always believed in delivering social value in our business and since the 2012 Social Value Act, it has become even more important Working with Bridges, they really have fine-tuned our social value offer and our commercial offer to our clients We were doing some of these things already but what they’ve been able to bring is a real focus and real sharpness to the business What I like about this job is the environment that we provide for the people the jobs and training and helping the community We’re not just a commercial business that’s just taking We’re also giving back to the
community as well.
