2020 – New year, new shed, new projects (240z, Td5 Defender, XT130 Toyota Corona)

[music] Hi everyone! my name’s Aaron. Welcome to
2020 it’s a lot of new things for me this yearin a new shed I’m still unpacking a little bit as
we’ve only recently shifted as in a few days ago the Datsun was brought down
from its previous home and also I’ve got some new projects all singing to myself
I do have other cutter projects and why just limit this channel to what goes on
with the Dodson I do have a 2003 Land Rover Td5 defender a Td5 extremes
specifically which are also bought as a long-term project it’s got a few bits
and pieces rust and a few other bits and bobs are I bought that a few years back
it’s a daily driver but it does need a few tweaks and whatnot so I figured I
wanted to include that in my channel and the other big one that I’ve been wanting
to do for a long time here’s my XT130 1981 Toyota Corona now this is my first
car I bought back in 2001 first car ever had it’s the first car built an engine
for so it’s very important to me but I sold that a number of years ago passed
through a few hands and I was able to get it back a few years ago so what I
wanted to do was that I’ve also bought an RT132 lift back which is a Japanese
made Toyota Corona with an 18R engine in it it has it’s a bit of an
upmarket car had red velour and it’s got air conditioning
I think nosepass steering as well but anyway the idea was when I first got
this car um it has the Starfire 1XN motor which if you’re a Holden person
that’s a Holden 6 with 2 cylinders lopped off it’s probably best as a
boat anchor you know people call it not the starfire but the ‘misfire’ 1XN
so as a good engine to learn how to build engines on but what I always
wanted to do was put an 18RG which is a 2 liter
Toyota motor it has a Yamaha twin cam head on it
they were the 18RGs were used in the 70s the Celica’s all ran them that
the top-end Celicas is there was a few models of Corona that had them in it but
I don’t think any were delivered to Australia so the idea behind that is
it’s got a few bits and pieces needs to be cleaned up it’s got some natural
patina which I’ll probably tidy up and few floors within the bodywork but the
idea was get the RT132 lift back take all the running gear out and swap
it straight into the 130 series I have seen it done before
a common thing I’ve seen pop up as people stick JZ motors in them turn
them into drag machines which or you can do but I’m not really interested in that
I want to keep the old the old 2 valve per cylinder twin cam motor gone
probably with carbs reify swap all that in so that’s the project I would like to
get onto this year with the Batson where I got to in the last year was actually
getting it all running I’ve just got to do a bit of tuning with the ignition map
and then we’ll off to the dyno which hopefully should be not too far off and
then it should be in the near future I do think though after marking with the
carbs and just having the ability to jump on a computer and adjust the
ignition parameters and whatnot that to me is very easy to do simple than the
old manual methods so I think when those carbs when I’ve seen these I’ve done
this done I run I do think I might switch to EFI I will switch to EFI I’ve
got the computer just needs a few mods and obviously the hardware installed on
the engine but I think yeah oh I’ll convert this to EFI for 2020 I think
once the the EFI is converted and that’s running as best as it’s can I’ve got a
spare N42 head over there which I know the head on this engine is limiting it
so I might work on that I do enjoy making content I hope you guys do like
it I do know I’ve been very inconsistent over the last year I’d like to be think
I could be a bit more consistent now that I’m out of a rental in a big shed
where I can actually do some decent projects
and when it gets to the end of the day just lock it up I don’t have to pack
everything up because I’ve got no space I could just leave it here come back to
the project that’s where I’m at I’m going to spend some time not drilling
down on this ignition map I’m pretty sure I got it close to where it needs to
be I want to spend a bit of time on it getting it right because when I do
convert to you four it’ll still be relevant to the engine so nothing it out
will be good I’ll have to dig up the old that little bionic ear I made to see if
I our effective it is for hearing knock head got packed up somewhere up to dig
it out but I think I’ll give that a run see how we go with that I do see people
have given me their thoughts on what kind of horsepower get I do plan to take
it to the dyno I did do the original dyno run on so it’ll be a comparison and
I am aware that dyno figures can vary and whatnot so I’m just gonna stick to
the same diner I got dyno don first on and use that as a comparison thanks to
those who supported me through 2019 there have been a handful of people that
have always been there to provide advice and point out my errors which I do think
I don’t know everything but I do know enough to be dangerous so you thank you
for those consistent supporters I hope you’re 2020 he’s got plenty of projects
planned if you’ve got any cool things any projects are leave leave them in
description of love to hear about them particularly if they’re all JDM cars and
whatnot I know this video didn’t have anything on cars but it’s more of an out
life of the year it would appreciate it if if I could get a like it helps my
small channel and if we are meeting for the first time particularly if you want
to see updates aren’t ya when the corona actually gets worked on or the defender
actually gets worked on consider subscribing and and if you do subscribe
make sure you hit that notification build so you don’t actually miss out on
on the updates thank you very much for watching have a good 2020 and I’ll see
you later Cheers!
